DRT AB, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FRANCE LARGEST FOREST COOPERATIVE ALLIANCE FORÊTS BOIS (AFB), JUST PLANTED THE 1000TH HECTARE OF WOODLAND DEDICATED TO ENERGY PRODUCTION. THE EVENT TOOK PLACE IN THE PRESENCE OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND STAKEHOLDERS.
This unique reforestation program has been initiated in 2015 as part of a partnership with AFB with a twofold environmental objective:
- Power biomass cogeneration that meets 95% of steam needs of DRT plant in Vielle-Saint-Girons,
- Prevent conflicts related to the use of forest resources with traditional activities from paper mills and sawmills.
“This reforestation that allows for the production of 100% green and renewable energy shows DRT’s commitment to preserving forest resources, a core resource at the root of the company’s business activities” said Boet Brinkgreve, President of Ingredients, Firmenich.
COGENERATION IN SAINT-GIRONS
The industrial site of Vielle-Saint-Girons upcycles the wood from the Landes forest along with 6,000 tons of by-products from the production plant. This supply plan makes it possible to substitute most of the fossil fuel energy consumption while preventing emissions of more than 400,000 tons of CO2 spreading across 20 years of operations.
“Onsite cogeneration benefits from a sustainable and original biomass supply plan”, ”, comments Laurent Labatut, President of DRT. “It was essential for us to foster local economic development through this cogeneration program, without creating conflicts of usage with traditional industries or tensions on forest resources”.
